WowAceUpdater advert free

Update: Looks like Curse Inc. gave the WowAce guy a big sack of money, now WowAce itself (as we know it) is being closed and instead of one piece of adware from an individual you'll now get a HUGE piece of adware from a commercial company. WAU and all other similar programs that rely on WowAce will stop working soon, you'll have to use their adware or pay them a monthly fee.

Fortunately I've reverse engineered their client, here's a version of it in Python, feel free to integrate into your updaters, I might modify WAU and WUU if I can get around to it.

For old times sake:

WowAceUpdater was a very useful little open source program for keeping your World of Warcraft addons up to date.

Unfortunately the new maintainer has inserted obnoxious sound playing flash adverts directly into the main user interface, not only are these adverts very distracting, but they also tend to crash the program.

Originally I modified the source code to replace the adverts with a small donation link, unfortunately the maintainer decided that people exercising their rights under the license was a bad thing, so he no longer publishes his changes.

Now instead I've written a small patch, run it and it'll remove the adverts. When WAU updates itself, run the patch again and it should remove them again.

If your copy of WAU breaks after applying the patch, it's a bug in WAU, you can probably still poke the WowAce people for assistance as the change is about 5 bytes, but you may wish to neglect the fact you've patched it.
